Summer Shoes
I have been known to own a pair of shoes… Or twenty. And I’m woman enough to admit that not all of those shoes fit the level of function that would allow me to keep a decent pace while walking with my husband (who happens to be a giant. Yes, that’s my go-to line of defense!).
You know what else is a good line of defense when you’re facing criticism for an inappropriate choice of footwear? “But I’m a photographer…” Taking pictures of things like cats, bicycles and our own feet is just what we do — it’s like a nervous tic for some of us! CAT! CLICK. WINDOW SILL! CLICK! AWESOME SHOES! CLICK CLICK CLICK!
I squee’d all over the internet when I finally bought my perfect rain boot, but these? These are my summer jam. They’re a thrift store find that Jessica gave me last April when we visited SF. They definitely aren’t a shoe that’s made for walking, but for your typical Portland day it’s the perfect fit. I don’t think I took them off until well after summer was over — I even remember walking down the street for some coffee one day, mid-afternoon rain and all. That’s love.

Ahaha, yessss!
I think the hardest thing for me is buying shoes, even ones from thrift stores that are only $6.00 because I inevitably wind up discovering after 20 minutes of walking that they aren’t comfortable. There’s really no way to test for that in a store!!
ooh they are super cute. i’ve always wanted a pair like that but i’m so weak — i must have uber comfortable shoes (which essentially means only tennis shoes or sneakers or flats).
Oh gosh, this made me laugh out loud. There’s just something about taking a photo of cute shoes that happen to be on your own feet that totally justifies wearing ill-fitting shoes.
They’re pretty much perfect. Function be damned.
Actually, I began wearing heels for the first time ever last year. It started because I wanted to upgrade to heeled dance shoes when I began to do Argentine Tango, and once I mastered them there… well, I started LIKING the idea of feeling like a lady. It’s been weird, though… heels are far less photographer-friendly. I have to actually think about what the day will look like when I choose my shoes, now. But it is a treat to look down at my saucy legs and shout, “I’m saucy!”
They are great :)))
