Munchkin

Right now, I’m cursing the rain. Even though I love cold weather and can’t wait to eat baked potatoes and drink peppermint tea for dinner tonight, the year is also quickly approaching yard sale season.

I went to some pretty sweet yards the other weekend when my best friend was in town, and even found a perfect copy of Munchkin for 50 cents! In stores, this game can cost up to $25 and it’s the best new-game I’ve played in recent memory.

Having trouble finding people in town who love this sort of geeky fun as much as Chris and I, though… Any takers?

At the same house the couple putting on the sale had loads of vintage cameras and music recording equipment. It was like Chris and I’s dream come true! Hopefully it lightens up long enough for me to visit at least one stranger’s porch this weekend.

  1. never tried it….if you guys ever start playing Magic The Gathering..let me know. I have a tribal deck that kicks but :)

This came looks really cool..if only because of the name

  2. Haha, Chris is a M:TG geek! He still has a binder full of his cards and I’m pretty sure he still stays in the loop in some respects. I played it with him a few times, it was fun even though he slaughtered me. But I’m definitely more of a LARPer when it comes to geeking out. D&D for life, yo! :D

The best part of playing Munchkin is that you are encouraged to backstab and sabotage others… In fact, it’s pretty hard to win the game if you don’t. Also, the art direction and descriptions on all the cards are hilarious and cute.

  3. Tell him to try magic online..its free (well you have to buy vitural decks)…but its better because you can play whenever you want without hanging out at the local comic shop :)

    I want to play Munchkin!

Oooh and we WILL! You know, that gives me one more thing to be excited about Portland for– gaming friends! I haven’t played Fluxx in over a year because I don’t know anyone here who likes it.

  5. I LOVE THIS GAME. Hahaha, I can’t believe someone else has played it! It’s so obscure. A+, Kim, A+.

  6. Sara says:

50¢?! That’s CRIMINAL! Haha. If I lived nearby I’d play!

    1. Kim says:

I know, when he told me that I had to turn around quickly to conceal my sheepish grin that would’ve otherwise told him, “Are you SHITTING me?!” haha.

  7. Obscure? Really? It’s EVERYWHERE around here! I see it in all kinds of stores, from full scale book stores to nerdy little comic shops. Not that I ever go into COMIC BOOK STORES, heh heh >_>

You know I’m always down for a nerdy card game. I still have a boxes of Magic cards gathering dust. I also love Risk. We should have a game night.

Of course, Christina will only look on in disapproval instead of joining the fun, but whatevs!

    1. Kim says:

AWESOME! I was thinking of you while we were brainstorming through our friends, but I wasn’t sure if Munchkin was up your alley or not. A game night would be awesome. Christina doesn’t have to play, but she does have to make those Marscapone and strawberry things again.

  9. Ban says:

What?! I don’t remember you picking up a copy of munchkin…

    1. Kim says:

I got it at that camera/music equipment yard sale the next day.
