Portland Wedding, Portrait and Lifestyle Photographer // K. Miller Photographs

Take a Portland, OR folk band, add a photographer and her whole camera cache, load them up on eggs, bacon and coffee, throw them into an unmarked white van headed for Mt. Hood and this is just a taste of what you’ll get.

These are some bokeh panoramas that we fired off during the day, but there is much more goodness to come, including medium format and 35mm film, as well as everyone taking turns getting blasted by snowballs. Stay tuned!

  1. THIS is EXACTLY what I had in mind when I shot my band photos back in November, in Colorado, with mountain backdrops. They ended up not liking the shots I did like this because I guess they wanted their faces to be seen! I hope Harlowe loves this one as much as I do.

  2. [http://www.flickr.com/photos/cararosephotos] That’s a bummer, Cara. :[ Fortunately, the ideas I had were very much in line with what they had in mind, too. I like to describe days like this as more of a collaboration than a photo shoot. But knowing each other and being friends first definitely contributed to how comfortable we were with getting ideas across and executing them. I totally recognize what a rare case that is, which is why this was my first foray into band photography. :)

  3. my ideas were in line with the band leader and we were so excited. but then everyone else vetoed it for other shots. it all worked out awesome in the end though.

so excited to see your shots of their band. i need to check out their music now…have been meaning to.

  4. This is… wow… I’ve never seen so small people by so big trees before.

  5. [http://www.flickr.com/photos/thecheshiresmile] Thanks Alice :)

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/yourcoffee] It was incredible out there! We just randomly found this meadow on an off-street from the highway, too. It was completely untouched… Until we ran through it and threw snowballs and made snow angels of course. :)

  6. The band formerly known as Harlowe and the Great North Woods is now "DFO" (Douglas Fir Overdrive).

I’ve just never, ever seen such a perfect series of photos. You’re growing. I didn’t think there was room for growth but clearly there is because I’m just awestruck every time I see these.

    1. Kim says:

Bronwyn, thank you so much for your kind words. I’m kind of in that place where I want to get REALLY really excited, but a tiny part of me won’t let that happen. An artist thing, for sure. :) But it’s so moving to hear comments like yours. Thank you!

  19. LOVE the second shot. Those trees! Why people choose to live anywhere outside the Northwest continues to mystify me. Beautiful work.
