Guapo Comics and Coffee

Some things were meant to be.
Chris and I picked Ben up from the airport yesterday and on the way back we drove too far south on the freeway, eventually ending up in the Foster-Powell neighborhood, which none of us had ever been to. Traffic was slithering up Foster, so it wasn’t hard for us all to rubberneck as we passed by a curiously cheerful storefront, with the logo of a cat circled by birds and those magic words printed everywhere: Comics. Coffee. GUAPO.
I don’t know who was more excited: Ben, for finding a business that combined comics and coffee, or Chris and I, for finding a business that essentially had the same name as his recording moniker.
We immediately flipped a b’ and entered with childlike awe. The place was quirky, the staff was super friendly, and there were racks of ‘zines and mini-zines in the back – something I can’t recall having seen since the tender age of 19 when I first explored the Bay Area and ‘zines were still relevant to my life.
A couple purchases were made which I’ll post about later. And next time, we’ll sample the coffee. It was a bit late for caffeine when we popped in, but Guapo Comics, we love you already. <3

OMG! Too perfect!
what a cute name! and that bokeh is so perfectly autumn.
Awesome! I am friends with one of the owners. She’s the one who designed the logo. This shot is gorgeous. I love the ones on your blog too.
wow, a companion to this! http://www.flickr.com/photos/f_stereo/5004915327/
I’ll have to visit the place in SF and compare notes. Though the PDX comics coffee shop already wins best logo design.
These guys came in and visited our store before they opened up their shop! They were super nice. I think they lean a bit more superhero than we do.
Places like this make me miss traveling. I could never hope to get the shots you do, but yeah, you know.
What beautiful pictures of our shop! The shots in color are so bright and fun. I’m glad you took that wrong turn.
I wish I could take credit for our logo, but it was designed by our good friend and amazing comics artist, Aron Nels Steinke.
